Seconds anyone?

Seconds anyone?

I never really paid a lot of attention to just one second.  It seemed so small and sometimes insignificant in the scheme of things. Until yesterday.

It was an Irish misty kind of Sunday morning and our rescue lab mix Daisy and me were out for a leisure stroll with nothing but a nice open morning ahead. It was delicious, cool and we had the world to ourselves!

We were just about to the top of steep hill crossing over to other side of the road when a speeding car rounded a blind turn out of control, veering right for us. It felt like it took forever to tell my feet to “move” and pull Daisy at the same time. We looked odd, with hips and feet and tails in all directions, surprise on our faces as we struggled to get out-of-the-way.  The car flew by with just inches between us and I yelled ”slow down”  as she roared down the hill and out of sight.

In that second I noticed everything…our clunky movements, her frazzled look, and red sweatshirt.  And then it was over and we were safe. My legs were like jelly, my heart pounding and I thought thank God for a second!

One second was all it took to be missed by a speeding driver. Daisy’s extra sniff or the second I stopped to look up and catch the mist?  Whatever that second was, I loved it!

So Daisy and I continued on our journey and when we crossed the wooded creek trail we took it.  And there out of the reach of crazy drivers and swerving cars we strolled once again and celebrated our new-found second in the lucky Irish mist.  With grateful hearts, tails and a self-talk promise to slow down, sniff a bit more and enjoy each and every second!

Hello world!

Hello world!

Hi there,

I’m known as Kathy or Kate and sometimes KC, depending on who is calling my name!   This is my first blog and I’m excited to post on good self talk!

My work is so much fun and I love speaking, facilitating and mentoring around communication effectiveness, selling yourself and using your strengths   So this is a place where I’ll share some of the good energy I get while I’m out there.

A favorite saying of mine is, ” self talk is good talk if you talk good to yourself! “  I love this quote because so much of what I do, achieve and believe about myself comes from my self-talk.  The things I say to myself – positive, affirmative.

Here’s what I learned to say at the start of each day in kindergarten thanks to Mrs. Duffy!

“Oh what a beautiful morning…oh what a beautiful day, I’ve got a wonderful feeling, everything is going my way!”

This is fun to say when you are running late for a meeting on a rainy day with tons of traffic… it does lift the spirit a bit and helps to keep life in perspective! So try it and may your day go your way! :-)
